Ernie is four years older than Basil. Basil came from an animal shelter as a puppy and the two hit it off. It actually wasn't an instant match. Ernie never had a puppy biting at his ears and jumping all over him before. It took him a little while to open up to the idea that another dog was in the house. But very quickly they became best buds and wrestle every day and sleep together.

If one has a vet appointment the other goes along, too. In fact, the doctor will even pretend to give the other a check-up just because the dog feels left out. When it is time for a needle for one of them, the doc puts his finger on the back of the dog's neck and says, "OK, it's your turn. Here we go." Seriously. While many dogs hate going to the vet, mine practically pull me to the door when we get there.
